DJ Krush brings abstract hip-hop and jazz to Mannheim

On October 19, 2026, DJ Krush will perform as part of Enjoy Jazz at the Alte Feuerwache Mannheim. The Japanese DJ and producer combines atmospheric beats, deep bass, and experimental soundscapes for an intense concert experience between hip-hop, trip-hop, and jazz.

From street hip-hop to international sound art

DJ Krush, born Hideaki Ishii in 1962 in Tokyo, found his way to hip-hop in the early 1980s, inspired by the film Wild Style. In the late 1980s, he founded the Krush Posse and subsequently developed into one of the most internationally acclaimed DJs and producers in Japan.

Turntables, atmosphere, and precise orchestration

His sound thrives on reduced beats, dark textures, and finely tuned synchronization of samples, percussion, and electronic timbres. Albums like Krush, Meiso, Ki-Oku, Jaku, and Saisei showcase his stylistic range. Collaborations with artists such as Toshinori Kondo, Bill Laswell, Herbie Hancock, Mos Def, DJ Shadow, and Guru anchor his work at the intersection of hip-hop, jazz, and electronic music.

Live at the Alte Feuerwache Mannheim
