Fischer-Z celebrates 50 years of band history at Capitol Mannheim
A half-century of Fischer-Z meets the special live atmosphere of Capitol Mannheim: John Watts brings the 50th Anniversary Tour to Mannheim on October 19, 2026. The concert starts at 8:00 PM, with doors opening at 7:00 PM.
Between New Wave, Post-Punk, and British Pop History
Fischer-Z was founded in 1976 at Brunel University. Frontman John Watts has shaped the British music scene with his distinctive voice, pointed lyrics, and a quirky blend of New Wave, Post-Punk, and sophisticated pop. The band's well-known titles include The Worker, So Long, Marliese, Red Skies Over Paradise, and Room Service.
John Watts: Psychology, Punk, and Stage Energy
Before Watts permanently transitioned to pop music in the 1970s, he studied psychology and worked at an experimental facility. This unusual biography creates an exciting contrast to his stage performance: analytical observation meets edgy sound, social themes, and the direct energy of a live concert.
A Anniversary Concert with Great Musical Range
The 50th Anniversary Tour looks back at Fischer-Z's extensive discography, combining well-known songs with newer works. At Capitol Mannheim, this results in an evening of concert performance featuring driving rhythm, precise band synchronization, and the characteristic sound colors of the British formation. The acoustics of the venue, stage lighting, and audience atmosphere provide the perfect setting for the songs.
Capitol Mannheim as the Concert Setting
The concert takes place at Capitol Mannheim at Waldhofstraße 2. The main floor is accessible at ground level and is barrier-free. Tickets with a combo ticket allow for free use of the VRN transit area on the day of the event until 3:00 AM the following day for selected events. Parking around the Capitol is limited; traveling by public transport is recommended.
Conclusion: Experience Fischer-Z live in Mannheim
The 50th Anniversary Tour promises a focused look back at five decades of Fischer-Z, driven by John Watts' compelling stage presence and a repertoire full of New Wave and Post-Punk classics. For those who want to not only hear the band's history but feel it live, the Capitol Mannheim offers a special anniversary evening.
