Groove, Soul and Jazz Classics at Ella & Louis
On November 2, 2026, Ella & Louis in Mannheim will transform into an intimate meeting place for Jazz, Soul, and R'n'B. Michael Stephenson and the Alexander Claffy Trio bring great classics with a personal touch, warm sound, and palpable joy of playing to the stage.
When Jazz Meets Soul
Timeless songs that have shaped generations are at the heart of this performance. Inspired by Nat King Cole, Ray Charles, and Marvin Gaye, the ensemble combines melodic elegance with bouncy swing, grooving bass, and expressive singing. Michael Stephenson takes on vocals and saxophone, giving the pieces a direct, emotional presence.
Strong Lineup, Lively Stage Performance
Alexander Claffy shapes the rhythmic foundation of the evening on bass. André Weiss on piano and Itay Morchi on drums complement the piano trio with precise synchronization, dynamic direction in interplay, and a fine sense for the drama of each song. Between lyrical passages, driving grooves, and powerful solos, a concert atmosphere full of movement is created.
An Evening with Musical History
The shared musical language is documented on the album Michael Stephenson Meets the Alexander Claffy Trio, released in 2021 by Cellar Live Records. The repertoire ranges from Sweet Lorraine to When a Man Loves a Woman and Tennessee Waltz to What’s Happening Brother?. The arrangements bridge classic jazz, American pop history, and contemporary stage performance.
Jazz Club Atmosphere at Ella & Louis
Ella & Louis provides the perfect setting for this concert experience: immediate audience proximity, characteristic acoustics, and an ambiance where every nuance of the saxophone, every strike of the piano, and every pulsating bass note comes to life. Here, music unfolds not as a mere backdrop but as a shared moment between stage and audience.
Michael Stephenson, André Weiss, Alexander Claffy, and Itay Morchi promise an evening of groove, feeling, and musical passion. Anyone wishing to experience jazz classics with soul, swinging energy, and a personal touch live will find a special concert date at Ella & Louis.
