Leonardo da Vinci: Inventions Become a Lively Art Experience

The special exhibition Leonardo da Vinci – Experience Inventions opens at the Museum of World Cultures of the Reiss-Engelhorn Museums, providing access to the fascinating world of thought of a universal scholar. Leonardo da Vinci appears here not only as a significant painter of the Renaissance but also as a scientist, anatomist, engineer, and visionary inventor.

A Workshop Full of Ideas

The tour begins with a special welcome by the Mona Lisa and then leads into Leonardo's extraordinary connection of art, nature observation, and technology. His designs preserved on parchment form the basis for an exhibition in which historical drawings, technical reconstructions, and cultural education are closely intertwined.

Push, Turn, Press, and Discover

At the center are 30 interactive stations and models made according to Leonardo's drawings. Children and adults experience firsthand how a drum machine, a drill, an elevator, a parachute, or a pedal boat work. The exhibition not only makes technical principles visible but also physically tangible.

Renaissance Meets Present

Leonardo designed bridges, vehicles, innovative drives, and flying objects. His precise observation of nature inspired him to solutions that were far ahead of their time. The exhibition contextually places these inventions in the art historical period of the Renaissance and shows how closely aesthetic experience, scientific curiosity, and engineering thinking are connected.

In conclusion, the curation bridges Leonardo da Vinci to Mannheim and the present. Selected start-ups from Mannheim demonstrate how Leonardo's innovative power continues to serve as an impetus for new ideas to this day. Thus, the exhibition also becomes a place for contemplation of works, experimentation, and future inquiries.

Exhibition Atmosphere and Cultural Education

The interactive design ensures movement and an immediate exhibition atmosphere. Forms, mechanics, and materiality are not distanced behind glass but invite independent exploration. The art experience connects historical research with playful discovery and opens new perspectives on painting, sculpture, the history of technology, and the invention culture of the Renaissance.

Conclusion: Experience Leonardo's Inventive Spirit

The exhibition promises an inspiring aesthetic experience for art enthusiasts, families, school classes, and anyone interested in exploring the connection between creativity, science, and innovation. Those who wish to understand Leonardo da Vinci not just as a painter but as a visionary thinker should visit this interactive art experience live at the Museum of World Cultures.
