Hand in old mobile phones, preserve resources: E-waste campaign in Mannheim
On Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the Mannheim City Library will focus on International E-Waste Day. Between 12:00 PM and 5:00 PM, the Mannheim City Space Service will inform visitors at the Central Library in City Hall N1 about the proper disposal of e-waste. At the same time, attendees can bring old mobile phones for the collection campaign.
Acting consciously in the city center
The event combines environmental education with a simple participatory action. The focus is on the question of what happens to outdated mobile phones and why electronic devices do not belong in household waste. The event experience stays close to everyday life: An old mobile phone from a drawer becomes a concrete contribution to resource protection and sustainable waste management.
Hand in your mobile phone and support reuse
Collected mobile phones will then be channeled into reuse through Freddybox in the Children's and Youth Library at Dalberghaus. The sustainable recycling system comes from JuRec-IT Remarketing GmbH based in Landau. This action demonstrates how municipal organization, environmental information, and practical return offers converge in the event management of an educational action.
Important information on e-waste disposal
Electronic devices contain valuable raw materials such as gold, platinum, copper, and aluminum, but also substances hazardous to the environment and health. Proper return protects resources and the environment. Before handing in a mobile phone, personal data should be deleted, and the device should be reset to factory settings.
Sustainable event with direct benefits
The compact information event is aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about e-waste, recycling, and reuse. The calm atmosphere of the city library creates a suitable setting for conversations, information, and sustainable actions on-site.
Conclusion: Small step, big impact
If you have an old mobile phone lying around at home, combine your visit to the city library with a meaningful contribution to the circular economy. The mobile phone collection campaign makes sustainable disposal tangible and shows how easy responsible action can be in everyday life. Experience the environmental action live in Mannheim and bring your outdated mobile phone to the collection point.
