Home Game 7: Discover Mannheim Contemporary Art at PORT25
With HOME GAME 7, PORT25 – Space for Contemporary Art presents the latest acquisitions of the Cultural Office of the City of Mannheim. The exhibition brings together works from seven Mannheim artists and highlights the diversity of the city's current art scene.
Artistic Diversity as a Cultural Portrait
The exhibition series connects different artistic positions, media, and generations. Individual works from photography, painting, drawing and graphics, steel works, ceramics, sculptural works, and object art will be displayed. This creates a multifaceted view of contemporary art in Mannheim – between concentrated form, sensual materiality, and open pictorial spaces.
Material, Space, and Aesthetic Experience
The examination of the works leads through a spectrum of surfaces, lines, volumes, and photographic imagery. Ceramics by emmanuel boos combine geometric basic shapes with the idiosyncratic processes of clay and glaze. His sculptural works relate to Minimal Art and Concrete Art, while nonetheless maintaining a lyrical, material-focused effect.
Jana Bißdorf creates spaces filled with loose narratives in mixed media and photography. Her works connect media theory, memory, and subjective perception. The exhibition atmosphere invites viewers to read images not just as representations, but as open thinking and experience spaces.
Rüdiger Krenkel's sculptural works draw attention to movement, structure, and form finding. Arches, lines, cavities, and gaps characterize his sculptures and make the physical process of creation in the material understandable.
Community Collection and Cultural Education
HOME GAME 7 stands for active municipal art promotion. The Cultural Office of Mannheim acquires works from local artists, thus strengthening both the local cultural landscape and public perception of contemporary art. The exhibition makes this collection policy visible and opens pathways to current forms of painting, sculpture, installation, photography, and object art.
PORT25 sees itself as an exhibition venue, a meeting place, and an extracurricular learning environment. Public tours of the exhibition are free; upon request, the venue offers school tours and workshops to complement exhibition visits. Thus, the art experience connects expert mediation with immediate aesthetic experience.
Conclusion: Mannheim Art in Lively Dialogue
HOME GAME 7 offers a concentrated panorama of Mannheim contemporary art and shows how differently artists engage with image, body, material, and space. Anyone who wants to get to know the local art scene, gain new perspectives on municipal collection practices, and engage in an intensive examination of works should definitely experience this exhibition live at PORT25.
