Vivid Painting between Stencil, System, and Poetic Distortion

With Konstantin Voit, PORT25 – Space for Contemporary Art presents an artist whose painting develops complex visual worlds from simple forms. The exhibition showcases works from various series and honors the Mannheim prizewinner of the Mannheim Art Prize of the Heinrich Vetter Foundation 2026.

An Artistic Experience between Order and Surprise

Konstantin Voit's painted work thrives on the tension between recognition and irritation. Since the 1990s, an extensive collection of children's painting stencils has formed the basis of his artistic practice. Reduced motifs, clear contours, and intense colors transform into signs in the painting with new symbolic and archetypal meaning.

The Painting Factory as an Artistic Laboratory

Voit studied at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg, among others with Sigmar Polke, and founded the Painting Factory in 1995. In this conceptual working model, he explores the possibilities of reproduction, variation, and serial image production. More than 2,000 paintings, as well as numerous work blocks, testify to a consistent engagement with color, form, and order.

Advertising Block 2.0: Between Logo and Image Sign

The centerpiece of the prizewinner's exhibition is the new series Advertising Block 2.0. It connects to earlier works with logos, but distorts their templates to such an extent that only traces of their original readability remain. The exhibition makes visible how well-known signs create poetic visual spaces that connect consumer culture, memory, and perception.

Insights into a Multifaceted Oeuvre

Additionally, PORT25 shows classics from the Painting Factory as well as works from the series A Short Story of Everything, developed since 2020. These works connect to Voit's early work and illustrate how his visual language has evolved over decades between abstract painting, conceptual art, and serial design.

Art Historical Classification and Aesthetic Experience

Voit's position combines elements of abstract and concrete art with an independent investigation of signs, stencils, and image systems. The reduced form does not become the endpoint but the starting point of the work examination. Color, rhythm, repetition, and shift create an exhibition atmosphere in which the eye oscillates between structure and free association.

Conclusion: Experiencing Painting as an Open System

The exhibition at PORT25 promises an intense artistic experience for all who wish to discover contemporary painting, conceptual image strategies, and the sensual power of color. The aesthetic experience arises in direct interaction with the works: between clear form, playful distortion, and surprising meaning. A visit opens new perspectives on painting and the sign world of everyday life.
