Konstantin Voit at PORT25: Painting between Stencil, Color and Memory

With the award-winning exhibition of the Mannheim Art Prize of the Heinrich Vetter Foundation, PORT25 – Space for Contemporary Art presents from August 1 to November 8, 2026, the versatile painterly work of Konstantin Voit. The exhibition date on October 28 invites visitors to discover colorful image worlds, abstract forms, and familiar signs in a concentrated exhibition atmosphere. Admission is free.

An Independent Visual Language from Children's Painting Stencils

Konstantin Voit, born in 1964 in Mannheim, studied at the Hamburg University of Fine Arts, among others, with Sigmar Polke. Since the 1990s, his extensive collection of children's painting stencils has been the starting point for a distinctive painting style. The reduced motifs initially appear simple and immediate. However, in the examination of the works, they transform into signs with symbolic, archetypical, and humorous layers of meaning.

Between Abstraction, Object, and Visual Memory

Voit's art moves between abstract image finding and the object world of everyday perception. Stencil motifs, logos, traffic symbols, and decorative forms enter into new relationships. This creates image spaces where recognition and irritation are closely connected. The painting encourages the eye to actively participate: The familiar becomes visible, changes, and simultaneously evades a definitive interpretation.

The Painting Factory as an Artistic Concept

PORT25 showcases works from different series and thereby offers insight into Voit's extensive oeuvre, which the artist refers to as a painting factory. The term refers to repetition, reproduction, and systematic investigation of painterly possibilities. Since 2020, Voit has developed, among other things, the series A Short Story of Everything, which draws a connection to earlier phases of work.

At the center of the exhibition is also Advertising Block 2.0. This series incorporates logos and symbols that only faintly resemble their original templates. Together with the stencil motifs, poetic, playful, and occasionally ambiguous image moments emerge. The works make visible how deeply brand images, trademarks, and visual memories are anchored in cultural memory.

Color, Form, and Aesthetic Experience

The vividly colorful painting of Konstantin Voit exerts its effect immediately in the space. Bright color fields, clear contours, and distorted signs create a dynamic tension between order and surprise. The aesthetic experience arises not only from the motif but from the interplay of color, scale, rhythm, and repetition.

The exhibition thus offers an inspiring art experience for visitors who want to engage with contemporary painting, visual culture, and the open processes of meaning formation. At the same time, it opens up possibilities for cultural education: The examination of the works sharpens the view for image signs, consumer aesthetics, and the question of how complex ideas arise from simple forms.

An Awarded Artist of Regional Contemporary Art

In addition to the Mannheim Art Prize of the Heinrich Vetter Foundation, Konstantin Voit has received numerous other awards, including several Welde Art Prizes, the Art Prize for Painting from the City of Bühl, and the Art Prize of the Artist Fair Karlsruhe. In 2018, he worked with a fellowship at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris. His works have been seen in numerous exhibitions and projects in the region and nationally.

The Mannheim Art Prize honors professional artists who live and work in the metropolitan region. The expert jury consisting of representatives from Kunsthalle Mannheim, PORT25, Mannheim Art Association, Cultural Office Mannheim, and Heinrich Vetter Foundation awarded Voit in 2026 for the outstanding quality of his painterly approach.

Conclusion: Experience Contemporary Painting Directly

The exhibition at PORT25 connects color-intensive painting, playful signs, and art-historically interesting questions about repetition, memory, and visual communication. Those who want to experience the visual worlds of Konstantin Voit not only reproduced but directly in their spatial effect will find an inspiring art experience between abstraction and object here. The free visit enriches the aesthetic experience and opens up new perspectives on the sign world of everyday life.
