Nico Discovers a Strange World

At the center is nine-year-old Nico, who is sent by his parents from Northern Italy to his great-aunt Gela in Sicily for a month. The change of location catches him unprepared: Gela seems old and distant, lives alone in a huge apartment without Wi-Fi and air conditioning, and serves him unfamiliar Sicilian dishes. To make matters worse, there are rumors of ghosts haunting the top floor.

Between Wit, Drama, and Important Life Questions

Nico’s initial shock develops into a summer filled with fears, discoveries, adventures, successes, and losses. Director Margherita Spampinato tells the story of the encounter between two generations with warmth and a perfect balance of humor and drama. Nico's childlike curiosity brings disruption to Gela’s reclusive life and ultimately leads to a long-held secret about a forbidden love.
