Seven Pockets, Seven Stories, and Lots of Children's Laughter
On October 21, 2026, Dirk Nowakowski invites children to a special family experience at the Mannheim City Library Sandhofen branch. From seven waistcoats and pants pockets, the storyteller conjures small fairy tales and stories – surprising, imaginative, and with plenty of space for the children's ideas.
Small Objects Turn into Big Stories
Wooden animals, twine, and chalk give the narratives their first impulse. From inconspicuous things emerge characters, adventures, and images in the mind. The children experience how imagination shapes vivid stories from simple materials – a child-friendly learning experience that stimulates curiosity, language development, and creativity.
Children Participate
What’s particularly exciting: The children participate in the selection and order of the stories. This creates a lively storytelling program where listening, thinking along, and making decisions go hand in hand. The age-appropriate participation boosts self-confidence, attention, and the sense of community in the group.
Why Stories from Around the World
At the center are imaginative stories that address big questions: Why does the millipede have so many legs? Why does the elephant have a long trunk? And where do the stripes of the zebra come from? The narratives combine humor, wonder, and cultural diversity into a warm story hour for children in grades 1 to 4.
Free Entry and Suitable for School Classes
The event is aimed at children in grades 1 to 4 and takes place on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM. Entry is free. Registration can be done via email to stadtbibliothek.sandhofen@mannheim.de or by phone at 0621 771231.
